U.S. to Train Libya Soldiers in 2014
The commander of AFRICOM has stated that the U.S. military will begin training Libyan soldiers in 2014. The 24-week training program will shore up security in the country in the aftermath of the 2011 demise of Moammar Gadhafi. The government army of Libya is weak and decentralized. There are numerous militias that control different regions of the country and of the major cities making security and governance problematic.
