Sunni-Shia Conflict Could Widen in Middle East
The Sunni - Shia conflict in the Middle East currently being played out in Iraq and Syria could potentially widen and engulf the entire Middle East. In Iraq the Shia dominated government has successfully alienated the Sunni population with the result that al Qaeda Iraq (AQI) has seen a resurgence. In Syria Sunni extremist groups have hijacked the revolution from moderates and are fighting the Shia-based Syrian government.
