Breach of Faith - Congress Reneges on Veteran Promises
In the passing of the omnibus spending bill in mid-January Congress has let it be known that it does not care for the veterans of this country who have fought its wars. In the bill is a measure that reduces the annual Cost of Living Allowance (COLA) raise for military retirees to 1% below the annual cost of living. The reduction of the retirement benefit will save the government about $6 billion. They certainly wasted no time in finding the money to extend unemployment benefits for another three months (approximately $6.5 billion). So essentially Congress took promised benefits from those who earned it in combat zones and gave the savings to those "chronically unemployed" who "can't find work".
