Afghanistan Counterterrorist Pursuit Team (CPU)
The CIA has funded, trained, and employed a private paramilitary force in Afghanistan called the Afghanistan Counterterrorist Pursuit Team or CPU. The unit was formed in the early days just after the invasion of Afghanistan by U.S. forces. The CPU reportedly numbers about 3,000 and is used primarily in the border regions but is also employed throughout the country. The CPU works in conjunction with U.S. Army Special Forces at times.
