New Sniper Rifle for Afghanistan: M-110 with 7.62 mm Round

The U.S military is providing nine Soldiers in each of its infantry companies with a new sniper rifle called the M-110.  It fires a 7.62 mm round.  It will be a vast improvement for Soldiers trying to engage the enemy at ranges greater than 300 meters.  Read more in "US rifles not suited to warfare in Afghan hills", The News Tribune, May 21, 2010.

Ain't a sniper rifle, it is a middle range DM, Designated Marksman, weapon, like good old russian SVD from the sixties.
I am not that sure about hills/mountain fights with this complicated weapon which hardly endure great temperature variations within a few hours(whatever greasing problem among others). Well, now with the M110 you can be more than a match against Talibans with mausers 98k from the thirtie's!
